Terms and Conditions

Effective 1 November 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and [Registered company name] ("gitstar", "we", "us"), [Registered office address]. They cover your use of gitstar.in and the developer waitlist. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

1. What gitstar is

gitstar is building a marketplace that connects repository owners with developers who carry out scoped software testing for pay. Right now, the service consists of this website and a waitlist. No paid work is available yet.

2. Waitlist

  • You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract.
  • You must give accurate information and sign up only once, for yourself.
  • Joining doesn't guarantee an invitation, paid work or any level of earnings, and it doesn't create employment, agency or partnership between you and gitstar.
  • We may decline or remove a signup, or change or end the waitlist, at any time.

3. Integrity rules

These rules apply to everyone who uses gitstar, now and after the portals launch:

  • Payment is for accepted test work. No payment or other reward may be offered, requested or accepted for a GitHub star, fork, follow, watch or other engagement metric.
  • Repository owners may not buy engagement metrics through gitstar, or ask testers to star, fork or otherwise promote a repository. A fork needed to run a test earns nothing on its own.
  • You may not use fake, purchased, shared or automated accounts.
  • Reports must describe your real experience. You may not submit invented or AI-only results.
  • Paid feedback that is published must be clearly labelled as paid testing.
  • You must follow GitHub's Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policies, along with any repository's licence.

We may remove anyone who breaks these rules.

4. Future services and payment

Portal access, paid briefs, pay rates, payouts and tax handling will be covered by separate terms that you will need to accept before taking part. These terms don't promise any payment.

5. Intellectual property

We own the gitstar site, brand and content. You may use the site for its intended purpose, and you keep ownership of what you submit. GitHub is a trademark of GitHub, Inc. gitstar is not affiliated with or endorsed by GitHub, Inc.

6. Acceptable use

You may not disrupt or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, scrape it at volume, submit automated signups, or use it for anything unlawful.

7. Disclaimers

The site is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties and don't promise that the site will be uninterrupted or error free.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, gitstar isn't liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability relating to the site and waitlist is limited to INR 1,000. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts in [City], India have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer rights you have where you live.

10. Changes

We may update these terms by posting a new version here with a new effective date. If you continue to use the site or stay on the waitlist after that, the new version applies.
