Real testing for open source

Most maintainers ship without knowing how their project behaves on someone else's machine. Issues arrive slowly, usually from people who were already stuck. Meanwhile, plenty of capable developers would happily spend an evening trying new tools if that time were paid.

gitstar connects those two groups. Repository owners will fund scoped testing work, and developers will do the work and report what they find.

Where we are today

We are at the start. The developer waitlist is open, and the developer portal and repository owner portal are still being built. No paid briefs are running yet.

What we stand by

• We pay for work, not metrics. Developers are paid for accepted test reports. Stars, forks, follows and watches are never required, tracked or rewarded.
• We don't sell popularity. Repository owners buy testing and feedback. They can't buy GitHub stars or forks through gitstar.
• Honest reports come first. A negative report that is clear and accurate is treated the same as a positive one.
• Paid means disclosed. Any feedback published from gitstar work has to be labelled as paid testing.
