Privacy Policy
Effective 1 November 2026
This policy explains how [Registered company name] ("gitstar", "we", "us") handles personal data when you visit gitstar.in or join the developer waitlist.
1. Data we collect
When you join the waitlist, we collect:
- your name and email address;
- your mobile number;
- the GitHub username, main stack and district you enter;
- the date of your signup and the version of these terms you accepted.
We use your IP address briefly in memory to limit abusive signups, and we don't save it with your signup. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs. This site doesn't use advertising or analytics cookies.
2. How we use it
- to manage the waitlist and invite you when onboarding opens;
- to send you messages about your place on the waitlist and the launch;
- to contact you on your mobile number about your invitation;
- to understand where our developers are based and plan onboarding;
- to prevent duplicate, automated or abusive signups;
- to meet our legal obligations.
We process this data with your consent, which you give when you submit the form. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us. Withdrawing doesn't affect processing that happened before.
3. GitHub accounts
The waitlist doesn't connect to your GitHub account. We only hold the username you type. We may open that public profile to check that a signup looks genuine.
If we later offer GitHub OAuth in the developer portal, GitHub will show you the access requested before you approve it, and we will update this policy first. We don't ask for your GitHub password.
4. Sharing
We don't sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site, such as hosting and email providers, and only as far as they need it. We may also disclose data where the law requires it. We won't share your waitlist details with repository owners.
5. Retention
We keep waitlist data until you ask us to delete it or until 24 months after you signed up, whichever comes first, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the EU and UK GDPR, you may have the right to access, correct or erase your data, to withdraw consent, to object to or restrict processing, to data portability, to nominate someone to act for you, and to complain to a data protection authority. To use any of these rights, email [email protected].
7. International transfers
Our service providers may process data outside your country. Where required, we use lawful transfer safeguards.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections and restricted access. No system is completely secure.
9. Children
gitstar is for people aged 18 or older. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we will delete the data.
10. Changes
We will post changes on this page and update the effective date. If a change materially affects you, we will email you first.
